Weekend Staycation in Lonavala with Velvett Homestays

When you are living in Bombay and want to experience a little bit of the winter chill, the best and the closest place to do that is in the hills of Lonavala. You either end up booking yourself into one of the pricey resorts or a mediocre hotel that is sure to upset your getaway more than please you. So what’s the best option if you don’t want to spend the big bucks but yet have a relaxing staycation experience?

I would definitely recommend you book yourself into a 2 bedroom at the Lilac Serviced Apartments through Velvett Homestays. Velvett Homestays handpicks and curates homestays along the Konkan coast and the mediterranean coast of Spain. Lilac Serviced Apartments is one of their affordable properties in Karli, just a 10 minute drive from Lonavala. Its a pleasant drive from Bombay and perfect in this weather. We started our drive around 11 am from Bombay and stopped to grab some delicious lunch at a little restaurant called ‘Mummy’s Homely Food’ which was just 15 minutes away from Lilac. I called for the chicken masala thali and it was simply marvellous as you can see!

The property is located in a huge walled community surrounded by lush greenery and faces the hills. Sachin; the caretaker of the property was really helpful and showed us around the flat and also gave us the number of a restaurant that delivers to the apartment as it’s a little secluded (seclusion is bliss btw!).

I was expecting a very basic apartment, but this was quite cute with 2 spacious bedrooms, a large hall with a balcony that overlooked the hills, a kitchen with a kettle, fridge, crockery, and an induction on request in case you felt like cooking. It actually is quite perfect if you want to hang out with a few friends for the weekend, cook some dinner and enjoy it with wine on the huge connecting terrace, yes you heard that right, you have your own private terrace where you can stargaze on a cold winter night! The bathrooms were clean and came with toiletries, that was a nice touch I thought, especially since this was a serviced apartment and not a hotel.

The weather was so pleasant that after a little nap, we went on an evening stroll within the property and enjoyed the sunset and the cool breeze.

Dinner can be ordered from Baithak restaurant which will home deliver for a small fee (a special thanks to Sachin for sharing the number), but beware, their quantities are huge! Our order of a Chicken Handi, Jeera Rice and Paneer Masala was enough to feed 5 people! Good thing, the property had a fridge. But something I missed was a microwave and I think that can be added to make the kitchen more user friendly. There is a community pool at the property as well, which we did not use as the weather was a bit chilly but I believe it could be super fun to just enjoy a lazy swim with no worries atleast for that very moment.

This is a great getaway option for those who want to escape the city life for the weekend and indulge in pure bliss. Highly recommend this place for its price, weather and service. I think this will be a great idea even during the monsoons where the lush greenery will further complement the property. There are tons of things you can do nearby including a visit to the Karli Caves; an ancient complex of Buddhist rock cut caves, Pawna dam, Lohagad & Visapur forts and Korigad trek, or you can simply decide to hit the pause button and unwind at this beautiful property, take long walks and sip some wine!
